  5.     Here is a program that offers a mountain of information that can
  6. be very useful to a traveler or a student doing a paper on a
  7. particular country or world region.  The Factbook contains maps,
  8. pictures and a lot of textual information on every country.
  9.  
  10.     Much of the data in this program was collected by either the
  11. State Department or the Central Intelligence Agency and put together
  12. in a very concise and easy to find manner.  There is statistical
  13. data for every country in the World, with traveler advisories
  14. concerning terrorist activity and civil violence.  For students who
  15. need research information on a certain country or terrorist group,
  16. this is the one place to find it.

  18.     While the information contained in the Factbook is very
  19. detailed, the Windows interface program needs to be improved.  While
  20. testing this program, I stumbled across a couple of shortcomings
  21. that can be annoying if you are not prepared for them.  In the Photo
  22. Gallery Tour there are several photos that do not display when you
  23. choose the photo heading.  You get a message saying "Number does not
  24. exist." This means the program is trying to display a photo using
  25. the wrong filename.  There was also a time when I tried to read a
  26. text file on country comparisons and I got a Windows dialog box
  27. saying the file was read-only.  This message by itself is not bad,
  28. however when you click the OK button, you do not exit the dialog
  29. box.  Windows will not allow you to exit to DOS if a dialog box is
  30. open, so you must reboot the system or turn it off with Windows
  31. still running, which is not recommended.  When working with this
  32. program, be sure to save the data in other open sessions just to be
  33. safe.

  35.     There are a couple of nice touches with this program that you
  36. don't often see in CD-ROM software.  First, it requires NO hard disk
  37. space.  It keeps all of its data on the CD-ROM, where it belongs.
  38. It also includes a DOS based interface, which will display all the
  39. text and photos.  The DOS interface is not as easy to use as the
  40. Windows interface, but it offers a little more stability than its
  41. Windows counterpart..

  43.     As the program's cover jacket specifies, this program contains
  44. "mountains of information," and it could be very useful to a student
  45. or world traveler.  If Wayzata World Factbook sounds appealing, you
  46. should see about getting the 1994 version when it is available, the
  47. minor bugs in this version should be fixed by then.
